Klas achieves Common Criteria Certification for KlasOS Keel, an intelligent edge OS.
The new NIAP Common Criteria (CC) certification for KlasOS Keel demonstrates Klas’ ongoing commitment to delivering the highest levels of security for its edge software and systems.
Dublin, July 23, 2024: Klas, a global leader in rugged edge technology solutions, announced Common Criteria (CC) certification for KlasOS Keel, an intelligent edge operating system (OS), under the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) current collaborative Protection Profile for Network Devices (NDcPP). Keel is validated for two NIAP Protection Profiles:
- Network Device 2.2E (ND) – standard basic protection profile for all networked devices.
- Firewall 1.4E (FW) – An add-on Protection Profile to ND for Firewalls.
With the new Keel CC certification, Klas further demonstrates its ongoing commitment to delivering products, software, and services that provide the highest level of protection against the most advanced security threats. Keel is a lightweight Linux-based open-source OS with an integrated KVM-based hypervisor, integrated routing and virtualized switching, SD-WAN and firewall capabilities, providing a secure virtualization environment on x86 compute platforms.
Keel achieved NIAP compliance on compute platforms of the VoyagerVMm 1.0, TRX R2 and VoyagerVM 3.0. With the latest CC certification, government agencies, government contractors, and private-sector enterprises can trust that the compute platforms deliver the highest levels of protection for both administrator and end-user data in transit.
As part of the NIAP CC validation process, both Keel and the physical compute devices underwent rigorous validation in critical areas of:
- Cryptographic Operations: conformance with FIPS PUB 186-4.
- Firewall: stateful traffic filtering with event logging and protection of data originating or destined for the device.
- Identification and Authentication: support for password-based and public-key-based authentication.
- Password and Key Protection: protecting and managing all passwords, pre-shared keys, symmetric keys, private keys, and X.509v3 certificates.
- Security Management and Auditable Events: secure local and remote management with detailed log events that include device configuration changes.
- SD-WAN: trusted Path/Channels supports DTLS for secure SD-WAN communications.
“With the CC certification of Keel and the previously certified KlasOS Fastnet, our switch OS, Klas is the only vendor that offers holistic solutions in secure rugged edge infrastructure,” said Frank Murray, CTO of Klas. “Our combined hardware and secure software offering reduces the total cost of ownership of edge infrastructure for our customers, by eliminating the need for additional NIAP compliant 3rd party devices and software.”
Common Criteria certification is governed by ISO/IEC standards bodies and maintained by NIAP according to internationally recognized security testing standards.
