Inmarsat GX Network Service Device (NSD)1 December 2016
The first software-defined tactical networking solution for use with Inmarsat’s new Global Xpress (GX) satellite network services
The Inmarsat GX NSD combines Klas Telecom’s KlasOS virtualization platform allied with a 5th Gen Intel® Dual-Core virtual machine server that enables Cisco 5921 ESR routing and Cisco VDS-IS content distribution in an easy-to-use, two-pound, ruggedized module. The Inmarsat GX NSD provides a smart interconnection between proprietary networks and the worldwide, high speed GX family of satellites. In addition to GX, the Inmarsat GX NSD also terminates BGAN services for L-band links and enables Inmarsat Over-The-Top (OTT) services like GX Voice, managed browsing services, content delivery and applications.Components
- 5th Gen Intel® Dual-Core™ i3-5010U (1.8GHz) processor with 8 GB RAM and virtualization
- Four Gigabit Ethernet ports
- Removable SSD storage
- DisplayPort (DP++) interface, HDMI and VGA supported via adaptors
- Console management interface
- 2 x USB 3.0 Type A interfaces
- VIK (Voyager Ignition Key) secure removable configuration storage
The Inmarsat GX NSD is currently deployed by the thousands to collect, store, process and transmit voice, video and data forward of disadvantage links for local networking capability. With the addition of virtual Cisco 5915 ESR routing, the Inmarsat GX NSD is the smallest routing/server/compute module on the market.
- Land force operations

VoyagerVMm routing/compute connected to BGAN and GX terminal with VoyagerESm switching to IP devices
In this configuration, the VoyagerVMm compute module is connected to the VoyagerESm switch. These modules can be standalone or installed in a Voyager2, Voyager8 or VoyagerECK chassis. An encryption device can also be connected to provide a secure red/black enclave.
Red/Black operations solution
In this configuration, VoyagerERm black-core router provides connectivity over SATCOM with commercial Wi-Fi and cellular. The Red/Black solution contains a sled to power a HAIPE encryption device. It supports KG-250X, KIV-54 or KG-175D (mounted separately) . A VoyagerESm on the red side includes VIK functionality.
